Fun fact: Dan Pelosi and I go way back. Like back to 2010. We met virtually through a mutual friend whom Dan dated for a few years, eventually met IRL, and have been sisters ever since.
Generally speaking, 2020 was a terrible year. But not for Dan. The circumstances of 2020 allowed him to lean into his ultimate passion — cooking for others. While Dan had been doing exactly that for years, it wasn’t his full-time focus. He was a creative director with places to be, teams to lead, and brands to build, but when the pandemic found him isolated at home in his Brooklyn apartment, things shifted. Suddenly, he wasn’t just cooking a few meals a week for friends, posting about it haphazardly on Instagram and moving on — he was cooking every single meal at home, taking meticulous overhead shots of his cutting board sitting just so on his trash can by the window, and inviting his small following to join in the stay-at-home fun.
Within weeks of his newfound food-forward focus, Dan’s following exploded and rose faster than freshly made dough in a perfectly tempered 75º room.
Since 2020, Grossy Pelosi has become a household name in the world of very online foodies. Dan has made multiple appearances on talk shows, podcasts, and even his own YouTube show via Food52. He has gained hundreds of thousands of followers, serious mass appeal, and his very first cookbook deal set to debut September 5.
As someone who has already received this cookbook, let me just say it is the most gorgeous, thoughtful, FUN cookbook I’ve ever owned. Dan’s eye for design, brain for marketing, and taste for food (obviously) are so well represented in this book — it’s fully and totally Grossy Pelosi at his best, in his element.
Let’s Eat will be available everywhere in a matter of weeks, so Dan and I set aside some time to chat about living, laughing, and lasagna. Watch to find out just how much went into the creation of this book, why Dan didn’t go to culinary school (you will gasp), and to fall even more in love with everyone’s favorite Italian Meatball.
