The ππΊπ§πͺποΈ List
We all know you're just here for the strawberry pop tart recipe...
It is a rainy, stormy day here in Dallas so forgive my delay. I sleep 10x better when the weather is how it is, so I got a late start today. No regrets, though!
Earlier this week, I sent out a paid letter breaking down my relationship with Taylor Swift, my initial reaction to her new album, and shared some personal news. If you arenβt a paid subscriber, itβs never not a good time to consider upgrading to get all the HOT GOSS.
The Weekend Digress
If youβre following me on Instagram, I am still sitting here laughing about the outpouring of concern Iβve been receiving today re: all Foxtrot Market locations shutting down. My sister has assured me I am completely oblivious to myself since I am so confused as to why everyone associates me with Foxtrot, and has more or less insisted that Iβm an idiot for not realizing how often I post about the coffee shop. We literally argued about it via FaceTime, so.
This weekβs list is short because I feel I havenβt consumed as much content as usual, which is a good thing but makes for shorter lists sometimes. Regardless, enjoy!
WATCHING
We have the ShΕgun finale to finish this weekend, and Iβm not ready. This is such a well-made show, and I will sincerely miss it. Might even perform seppuku over it (IYKYK).
We randomly but sort of not randomly started watching an older miniseries about John Adams. Itβs from 2008 and stars Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney and is, well, about John Adams and his role in American independence and the Revolutionary War. Paul and Laura are both incredible actors, as we know, so itβs a solid series. Itβs only seven episodes but theyβre very densely-packed.
Iβm not a regular listener of the Diary of a CEO podcast, but Zac came across this recent episode via YouTube and played it for me the other night. Heβs interviewing Jimmy Carr, who is an incredibly popular stand-up comedian in the UK, who I donβt find funny BUT I do find to be an incredibly insightful person and amazing interview. He drops so many nuggets of truth and theyβre really quite profound. I found myself wanting to jot down notes. If you have two hoursβ¦ watch it.
Lastly, if youβre not familiar with Bomanizer on Instagram (or TikTok, I guess, but Iβm not on TT so I canβt really speak to it), what are you doing? Heβs a hilarious creative genius from Canada, who does Kardashian episode spoofs with his friends and family and every time he posts a new reel, itβs like Christmas Day. Heβs just so talented and funny!
LISTENING
I am still obsessively listening to Chappell Roan to the point where I never donβt have one of her songs stuck in my head. I wake up in the middle of the night singing lines. Itβs bad. But honestly? I didnβt realize how much I was craving new-to-me music like hers, so Iβm relishing.
However, one of my absolute favorite psychedelic jam bands, Khruangbin, dropped a new album and itβs great. Their music is the perfect background music for so many occasions, but especially spring and summer. Get into it.
MAKING
THE homemade strawberry pop tarts, that are actually much more like strawberry short bread bars. But regardless, theyβre absolutely ridiculously good. Butternut Bakery does. not. miss. IDK where the fuck this woman learned her skills, but theyβre unmatched. Her instructions are also incredibly detailed, and it always makes me wonder how the fuck she figures these things out, i.e. βBake this temp for this long, then this temp for this long.β Itβs so wild. Anyway, next time you get the hankering to bake something amazing, go to her blog. Full stop.
SHOPPING
This gauze dress from Target is perfect for summer. I tried it on in-store, and immediately loved it. Itβs such an easy wear and exceptionally lightweight. It works on its own, and also as a swimsuit cover-up. I got it in white, but really want the gorgeous Cerulean blue, too if it ever comes back in stock!
We are growing lettuce in our garden, and itβs producing SO much. Of course, I threw away my salad spinner like an idiot thinking Iβd never use it again, so I promptly ordered this stainless steel one so I can wash, spin, and dry the shit out of our backyard lettuce! So excited.
My sleep has been compromised lately, and since I got off my sleep meds last summer, Iβve been trying to figure out how to get back into a good sleep rhythm without prescription drugs. I believe Iβve found my nighttime cocktail: 1 25mg Unisom, 2 capsules of this high quality Magnesium, and just a teeny tiny 1mg of kidsβ melatonin. THIS IS RIVETING CONTENT, RIGHT?????? But hey β you never know who may find this sleepy time cocktail helpful.
Go forth and have a lovely last weekend of April (WTF).
β EGM
I am SO happy to hear the world is slowly starting to discover Chappell. My poor husband knows almost all of the lyrics to Pink Pony Club and Naked in Manhattan because Iβve had them on repeat for years. She is a QUEEN and next pop icon
The pop tarts!!!!
