The 📖📺🎧🔪🛍️ List
The Kelce brothers, Posh and Becks, a skirt sale, James Carville, and more!
My apologies for the delay in sending this letter that typically hits your inbox on Friday mornings. It’s been a busy week, and I wasn’t able to get to it until last minute but it’s full of good stuff, so I think you’ll be able to forgive me.
Let’s dig in because I have a lot to say about things we’ve been watching lately.
WATCHING 📺
The way I’m now completely obsessed with David and Victoria, AKA Becks and Posh. Here’s the thing — when Beckham was really up and coming in the late ‘90s, I was too young to care. I knew his name because everyone did, but my main concern was The Spice Girls. However, I wasn’t obsessed with Posh (I played “Spice Girls” with my friends a lot where we’d assume their roles and lip sync their songs, and I was always assigned Scary Spice so I naturally decided she was my favorite). So, in general, I just didn’t really give a shit because I was all of 10/11 years old.
However. HOW. EVER. The docuseries that just dropped on Netflix about Beckham’s stardom is beyond. Not only is it incredibly well produced and edited, but if you watch it and don’t fall in love with them, you might have a chip missing. I wasn’t privy to their beginnings or how they met and fell in love, and OMG. I think I made Zac pause it six times just so I could scream “ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I’M OBSESSED!!!” They were so young and so hot and so famous already and it was “fancy at first sight.” Their love story is just so pure and amazing, it sucked me in immediately.
As I write this, we’ve yet to watch the last episode in which they refer to Beckham’s cheating allegations but I’ll say this — with a quick Google search, I don’t believe this man has ever strayed from Victoria. The way he was and still is obsessed with her + him cheating truly makes no sense. And I say this as a woman whose general reaction to a man cheating or being a piece of shit is to believe the woman and act completely unsurprised when he’s disloyal. But not with Becks. Not with Posh. I just refuse to believe it.
Anyway, treat yourself and watch the series this weekend. Also be warned that watching how horribly England treated Beckham at the height of his fame is hard to witness and will fill you with misplaced anger. Same with the media making up stories about Posh. It was all so fucked up.
ANOTHER sports doc? Who am I? This doc is on Prime Video and features the Kelce brothers — you know the ones, Jason and uh… the other one. JK, JK. But in all honesty, it’s much more a doc about Jason than it is Travis. Travis makes appearances, but he’s not the focus. It’s mostly about the brothers facing off in this year’s Super Bowl, and then Jason deciding whether or not he’ll play for another season (spoiler: he is. Right now). This was another incredibly well done documentary, and I walked away completely in love with Jason and his wife, Kylie. Their love story is also so simple yet so pure and phenomenal, and when I heard her dropping F-bombs and then threatening to kill Jason, I realized we’re the same kind of woman, and I love that for us.
Again, the focus is more on Jason, but you’ll get snippets of T-rav so it’s worth a watch!
This thriller stars Aubrey Plaza and came out last year. I had heard good things, but never got around to watching it until last weekend. Zac and I both loved it and thought she did a fantastic job. Emily is an out of work artist who takes odd jobs to make ends meet. A co-worker gives her a mysterious number to call if she’s looking to make more fast cash, and she calls, which leads her directly into the heart of a credit card crime ring. Her acting was captivating, as was the story, and I can’t say I’ve ever seen a movie like it. It was bad ass, and Aubrey is a force.
The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar
Wes Anderson has been one of my favorite film directors since “Rushmore” (1998). In September, Netflix rolled out four short films he created and directed just for the platform, and OMG — it’s the Wes Anderson magic I didn’t know I was missing so badly. We watched the first one, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, and it was 40 minutes of clever dialogue, fast cuts, incredible blocking, wonderful monologues, brilliant acting, and quick-witted everything. It was seriously magnificent. We haven’t watched the other three yet, but they’re on our short list. Watch Henry Sugar this weekend!
READING 📖
I’m still slowly working my way through the first Outlander book, but in the interim, an old friend I recently reconnected with lent me this book about miscarriages and recurrent pregnancy loss that she said helped her understand so much more and feel empowered to talk with doctors. I am very excited to dig in.
LISTENING TO 🎧
Nothing too new to report here, except that Bari Weiss interviewed James Carville for her latest podcast episode and it is HIGHLY entertaining and a wild ride. He has a quote that I wrote down as soon as I heard it because it really spoke to me and my way of thinking which is essentially to be whoever you want to be and believe what you want to believe—just don’t be an asshole. He put it more eloquently though:
“Your identity, to me, will never triumph your philosophy and your quality as a person.”
MAKING 🔪
You probably caught it on my IG stories this week, BUT JUST IN CASE YOU DIDN’T, I made what I feel are the best chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever made at home and implore anyone reading this to make them ASAP. The recipe calls for them to be BIG cookies, so they only make 6-7, and Zac and I have… 1.5 left after I made them on Tuesday. They are truly incredible and perfect. Don’t stray from the recipe at all — follow it exactly and you will be amazed!
SHOPPING 🛍️
First thing’s first. MAYSON the label is having a 25% off skirts sale this weekend, which means the gorgeous faux vegan leather wrap skirt I showed off to y’all last week is around $150! If you were eyeing it, now’s the time to jump. Here’s an image of me wearing it in case you need a refresher!
Next up, I decided to upgrade our dogs’ bedrooms* (*crates) and order them matching slip covers that ended up being SO cute? Zac and I decided on this pattern, they arrived in just a few days, and they are fantastic. If you’re psycho like me and trying to decorate your dog’s room, maybe check them out?
I don’t think I need to mention it because I did an entire series trying it out via my IG stories, but JUST IN CASE, I bought the red lipstick that Taylor Swift has *supposedly* been wearing during her Eras tour, and it’s… incredible? It’s actually witchcraft, the way it stays on. IDK what the formula is, but it’s somehow matte/shiny/juicy/dry all at once and stayed in place for 9 hours with no touch-ups. It’s the shade Elson 4 and I can’t recommend this lipstick enough, no matter what color you buy.
I am loving the Frame jeans I bought from my botched NUULY order. They’re actually on sale, and if you’re into cropped/flare jeans, do yourself a favor and order a pair. They are wildly flattering (especially if, like me, you’re a bit thicker in the middle and need to create more shape around your legs/ankles), true to size, and can absolutely be worn into the fall/winter with dark sweaters and tops.
This Sézane sweater is so lovely. It comes in a ton of colors, but I went with my power color (red) in a medium, and it’s perfect. I love the faux pearl buttons — they give it a light, sweet feminine touch.
I was getting really tired of having to wear my bath towel just-so to prevent it from slipping and falling off while I do my after-shower routine, so I went ahead and ordered a velcro towel wrap to solve that problem and it’s great. I used to wear these at summer camp and during college, but had forgotten all about them.
Lastly, I got this cute and easy raglan tee from Marine Layer in the charcoal/white mix. I felt it could be a perfect layering piece for our trip to Northern Cali next week! I found it to run a bit small in the chest, so I got a large to make sure I was comfortable.
Love you, cherish you, and hope you have a wonderful weekend.
