Closet purges and revelations + a viral Amazon product that proved to be worth the hype

Last night, my good friend and famed fashion blogger, Fashion Jackson, came over and helped me purge the fuck out of my closet. I enlisted Amy to do this because she is absolutely ruthless when it comes to paring down wardrobes, and I needed it; I genuinely go into my closet and wear the same few things over and over and over.

The amount of shit we put into a pile is overwhelming. Really all I can think about is how much money I’ve wasted on so-so clothing and how little wear I’ve gotten out of it. The biggest revelation for me, though, is how many crewnecks I own. As someone with large breasts (34DDD) and broad shoulders (which I always had a sneaking suspicion of but was validated during our honeymoon in Italy when an Australian jacket designer said “Youir have broad shouldahs”), I should’ve been drawing more attention to my tits and away from my shoulders all these years via scoop necks and the like. Instead, I’ve been boxing myself in more via crewneck necklines and that stops now. Get ready to see a lot more chest and collarbone from ya girl, OKURRRRT?!

Speaking of clothes, the reaction I got to this outfit I wore to a casual dinner this week was very surprising. I got so many DMs gushing over this very simple look that I literally threw together.

White tee / Pants / Loafers / Similar sweater / Similar headband

The shirt is an extremely cropped lululemon workout top that I had worn to bed the night before and all day that day, the tongue of my loafers are coming out because I wear them so often and I need to get them repaired, and I hadn’t touched my dumb short hair all day — I just put a headband in it to disguise that fact. But so many ladies were like “This outfit is perfect,” and I was like “…really???” Anyway, I linked to what I could!

WATCHING

We finished season one of Succession, and when I tell you I SCREAMED. I was laying down watching and SHOT UP so fast when the big thing happened. OMG. This family is just… beyond. Power and money really fuck people up, huh? My friends keep warning me that it gets worse and more insane, and that just when I start to feel an inkling of empathy for any character, they’ll quickly do something to fuck it up. Can’t wait.

Over the weekend, we went and saw the new Bob Marley biopic, One Love. Zac is a huge Bob Marley fan and has been for decades, so we had to see what it was all about. Our takeaways:

• You have to be an established Marley fan to love this movie. It doesn’t delve into his past — it focuses on a very specific moment in time and if you aren’t familiar with his life before this time, you will be left wondering.

• Every actor absolutely nailed the Jamaican Patois accent. In fact, it’s a bit of a struggle to understand the dialogue, which holds true if you watch old videos of Bob Marley speaking — his accent was incredibly thick, too. Amazing.

• The lead actor, Kinglsey Ben-Adir, was absolutely amazing, and I’m pretty sure he sang for real during some of the acoustic parts and nailed it.

• Bob Marley was a prophet.

If you follow me on Instagram, you might’ve caught that Zac randomly turned on Love Is Blind a few nights ago. We have never once watched one second of this show, but we’re trying to go slow with Succession and find filler stuff in-between, so I guess he thought this was the move. At first, I said “No, don’t. Please. I hate trash TV.” But six minutes in, I was hooked and Zac was regretting his life choices. I’ve only watched the first episode thus far, but am planning on treating myself to a Happy Hour binge today. I’m saving all my LIB reactions in this IG highlight in case you have a life and miss them in real-time.

LISTENING TO

One of my absolute favorite comedians, Caleb Hearon (who is touring and going to be in Dallas in May!), started a new podcast called So True. He only has two episodes so far, but the second is with another comedian I’m obsessed with, Caitlin Reilly, and it’s hilarious. I am so happy he’s back on the mic (he had a past podcast with a friend, but I think stopped to pursue bigger things for a minute).

Speaking of comedy podcasts, I have no idea why I haven’t been listening to Conan’s religiously all these years, but I listened to one of his latest with Larry David and it was a delight and a half. I recommend!

MAKING

I dug back through my own Weekly Lists on Monday to find things to make this week and did not disappoint myself.

This week’s meals were: this incredible salmon marinade with roasted broccoli and rice, Brocc Your Body’s One Pot Egg Roll Bowl (so good), and these incredible sweet potato black bean bowls with homemade adobe sauce and pickled onions. Every single one was fantastic — thanks, me!

SHOPPING

Nothing too exciting this week.

I decided CeraVe is somehow too rich for my skin, so I did some Reddit sleuthing and bought Vanicream cleanser and face cream and am sticking with both until further notice! Simple is best when it comes to skincare, IMO. I linked to both on Amazon, but you can typically find them in your local drugstore or Target!

Speaking of Amazon, Kate Kennedy of Be There In Five has been singing this candle warmer lamp praises for over a year now and I finally ordered one for myself. Holy shit? The light bulb heats the candle wax, spreading the scent throughout the room without having to light it. It has 4 intensity levels and 2-4-8hr timers as well. It’s incredible and every time Zac walks into our room now, he goes “WOW it smells good in here.” It’s 100% worth the hype!!! I’m so curious to see how much longer a candle lasts when warmed instead of burned.
