One thing about postpartum? My emotions change every day. No, wait — every hour. Although every day is more or less the same with the feeding and the napping and the rush to get even just one thing done, every day is also different because you never know how you’re gonna feel, how the baby’s gonna feel, or how the day will go.
Right now, Ziggy is fast asleep, taking his late-morning nap. As I sit here and write, I look over at the iPad (which is displaying the baby monitor) incessantly. It’s like a tick. I type a sentence and glance over. Type, glance. Type, glance. Type type type, glance glance glance. And this feeling of knowing my alone time is totally and completely in his power is a struggle for me. My time is not my own anymore. The second he decides he’s had enough nap and he’s ready to be retrieved from the shackles of his swaddle and crib, I’m forced to hit pause on whatever I’m doing, no matter how deep into it I am.
And that’s something I’m going to write about in-depth for paid subscribers in the near future, but for today, I want to share a couple things with ALL subscribers in the form of my typical Weekly List but not full-out.
First off, here is my very short and very literal Christmas list in case anyone was curious what I want for Christmas this year:
READING 📖
What is reading? I’ve forgotten. No but seriously, I think if I don’t get into audiobooks soon, it’s gonna be a long time before I read another book front to back. Maybe. I’m trying, though, because I threw Tom Lake in my bag this week and was reading it in-between errands when I could. I’ve never read an Ann Patchett novel before, and my mom LOVED this one, so I’m excited I even started it? We’ll see how long it takes me to get through it…
WATCHING 📺
I’ve been keeping a running list of shows and movies we’ve watched over the last two months because I knew I wouldn’t be writing about any of them for a while. There’s a lot, so I’m going to run through them quickly with one-line reactions to each.
The Dynasty: New England Patriots: Tom Brady had a serious glow-up and is a crazy-competitive, laser-focused pretty boy.
Trap: I don’t like thrillers or scary movies but gave this one a chance and it was honest to god one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen with the most broken plot I’ve ever witnessed.
My Old Ass: So surprisingly heart-warming and good, and if we have a girl, I want to name her Elliott.
St. Denis Medical: I have such respect for the idea because it was created by Office people, but everyone keeps trying to recreate the magic of The Office, and you just can’t.
Road House (2024): Jake makes me quake and holy SHIT, this movie is insanely violent (but very entertaining).
Our Little Secret: Lindsay may look incredible, but this movie was not. In fact, it was pretty horrible and who the fuck casted the main guy?
Shrinking (season 2): This is a perfect show and gets better with every episode, which I’m not sure I’ve been able to say about a show in a long time. It’s just so damn good and so well written, and I want Liz’s wardrobe.
Silo (season 2): Loved season one, not feeling season two.
LISTENING TO 🎧
Gotta be honest… I’m not listening to much during this season of life besides my baby’s breathing and to his farts to determine whether it was just a fart or a shit-fart. However, I just started following the Mo News podcast. I, like so many, am desperate for a truly unbiased source for news, and so far, they seem to deliver. We’ll see.
MAKING 🍽️
The only recipe anyone needs to concern themselves with right now is Butternut Bakery’s Chocolate Chip Cookies. These are, by far, the best CCC I’ve ever made at home and will be my go-to recipe for years to come. I followed it to a tee (I always measure ingredients on my scale when baking so the bake turns out perfect), except I didn’t have semisweet chocolate chips on-hand, so I used a mixture of dark chocolate and milk chocolate, and they were THE BEST HOMEMADE COOKIES EVER. And they held up for DAYS. AND you don’t have to chill the dough AT ALL. They are miraculous.
SHOPPING 🛍️
These v-neck sweaters from Old Navy are fabulous and do you know why? Not only because they’re $20 a pop, but because they don’t have a damn drop shoulder, which is hard to find nowadays. Drop shoulders make my already broad shoulders and chest look even broader, so this sweater is a big win for me.
These $10 fleece-lined leggings are also AMAZING. So cozy, so comfy, and so so cheap. Granted, they shed pretty bad and I had to forewarn my OB at yesterday’s 6 week postpartum appointment that the black fuzz she was about to witness was from my leggings, but that’s a small, silly detail.
I got this half-zip pullover from Target and haven’t stopped wearing it this week. It’s just so easy and really cute? Funnily enough, I also got this half-zip pullover by Varley which is 5.5x the price of the Target one. It’s incredible and feels like pure butter, but I like that I have both a cheap and quality option (the Target one I got is black, the Varley one is taupe).
We all know I love a cocktail, but I also love a dish of ice cream. This impossibly fun set of coupe glasses from Anthro can hold both (maybe even at the same time?).
My casual black booties are very very old and very very worn, so I treated myself to some new ones and these are sleek as can be. They run narrow, so I’d size up a half size! Otherwise, they’re sharp.
I’ve always had pretty pathetic eyelashes, so I’m dedicating myself to the Neulash system (it’s on sale from Nordstrom as I write this) and going to apply it religiously for a few months to see what happens. Stay tuned.
Christmas/Hanukkah are two weeks away, so IT’S GO TIME. Check out my one and only gift guide for this season to get some thoughtful last minute shopping done and have a great rest of your week!
My One and Only Gift Guide 🎁
For several years now, I’ve prided myself on my small online community looking forward to my holiday gift guides. Every year, they get bigger and better and more thoughtful, and they’re a serious labor of love that I genuinely enjoy putting together and take pretty seriously.

All drop-shoulder tops could be burned and I wouldn't shed a tear.
Massive Haaaate
Sammmeee!! Was watching the new season of Shrinking and found myself staring at Liz's rainbow plaid flannel and wondering why I love her "Karen" wardrobe so much! And also yes, we need more sweaters without drop shoulders!!
