I love shopping, but I love returning even more. Submitting a request for return, printing out the label, attaching it to the box, taping the box up, and ultimately dropping that box off at UPS/USPS, Whole Foods, or FedEx gives me a rush I can’t get anywhere else. It’s free money, after all.
Each month, I keep track of everything I bought and returned so I can share my fails with paying subscribers because it’s great when things work out, but it’s more interesting to talk about what didn’t work and why.
Welcome to Things I Bought and Returned (TIBAR).
TIBAR 1: ZARA JEANS (x2)
I never shop at Zara. Like, ever. We actually have a brick and mortar store here in Dallas and the lighting and layout and lines for the dressing room make my skin crawl, so I never venture inside. However, someone messaged me the other week that I should give their jeans a try, so I ordered three different pairs. One pair, these guys, ended up being lovely. I took my true size and they are perfectly baggy and comfy. But the other two weren’t winners. The pockets on these were horrendous, which I should’ve known from the picture but went against my best judgment. These mom jeans were actually amazing but created a pretty gnarly bunched up bikini line “V” (you know what I’m talking about), and I didn’t necessarily want to get the next size up, so they went back.
TIBAR 2: ZARA DRESS
I loved the idea of this fully button-down collared sweater dress, but the weather in Dallas is literally 90º one day and 45º the next and this dress is thick. Therefore, I couldn’t justify keeping it because I probably will only be able to comfortably wear it once this spring before it’s 130º outside and I hate my life.
