It’s not an extensive Weekly Digress, but it’s something and for that reason, I’m excited.
Hi, guys! Hope everyone’s doing as well as they can for the dumpster fire that is 2025 so far. I can hardly believe we’re heading into the last week of February and that, next week, I can claim to have a 4 month old. THAT is fucked up.
I’m planning to write a reflection on the first four months next week for paying subscribers and wanted to remind PS (Paid Subscribers) that I’m doing an exclusive Ask Emma Anything, so they should submit any questions they have on that letter ASAP!
All right. Here’s a short list of what I’ve been reading, watching, listening to, making, and shopping as of late.
READING
I finished Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty, and I give it 4 out of 5 stars. Maybe 3.75. I have thoughts, BUT my sister also read it when I was, and we’re flirting with the idea of a 2-person book club and maybe making our reviews another PS (Paid Subscriber) perk, so I’ll hold off on writing about it right now.
In the spirit of this maybe-2-person-book-club, we decided to move onto The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese. Ellen read this a while ago and loved it so much, so it’s been on both of our lists for a minute. It’s a very long book — over 700 pages — but is moving pretty quickly and both of us are really enjoying it. I only read at night right before I pass out, so it’s going a little slower for me, but my sister is over halfway done already. Bitch.
Vote on whether or not a Golden Girls book club would be something of interest to you (PS or not):
WATCHING
I think I mentioned this 100 letters ago, but Zac has never seen The Sopranos (he was too busy doing bad shit as a teenager when it was on), so we’ve been working on it slowly and came across this awesome documentary about the show’s creator, David Chase. It’s so good. Really interesting and goes in-depth about how the show came to be and even shows audition tapes (my favorite). If you’re into The Sopranos, it’s a must-watch.
We also started The Pitt this week and it’s damn good. One of my best friends is an ER nurse and said it’s the most accurate depiction of the ER that she’s ever seen on a TV show, so I knew we had to watch. The concept is interesting, too — it takes place over a 12-hour shift so each episode is a specific hour of the day, i.e. 7-8a, 8-9a, etc. The cast of characters is really good and, while Noah Wyle’s nose really unhinges me, I dig his approach to the role. Heads up, though — it’s graphic. They don’t shy away from showing the injuries and what not. Also, Bryan Cranston’s daughter stars as one of the young residents and steals every scene she’s in.
LISTENING TO
Ever since getting back into the gym, I am LOVING this Spotify radio station based off Doechii. It’s a lot of her, Tyler, the Creator, Kendrick, Megan the Stallion, Glorilla, and more. It gets me very hype, and that’s all I can ask for.
MAKING
Man, I made the most heinous tacos this week. I have a taco meat seasoning recipe I’ve been using for YEARS (literally since 2018), but deviated from it for some weird reason and the result was practically inedible. Taco Tuesdays are usually so good around here, but Zac and I ate in silence and neither of us went back for seconds. Fuck.
HOWEVER, I did finally try chocolate-dipped, peanut butter-stuffed dates this week and HOLY SHIT. They are SO good. I really don’t know what took me so long as I love chocolate and peanut butter together, but all that matters is that I finally got there. I used this recipe, but I want to try this one by Cailee Eats next time!
SHOPPING
To celebrate my return to the exercise scene, I treated myself to new HOKA Clifton 9’s, and the colorway is everything and more. JUST LOOK AT THEM.
If you’re interested, they’re the Vanilla/Astral color and they’re always true to size!
A local boutique was having a pretty awesome 50% off denim sale, and I was brave enough to try some jeans on my postpartum body and fell in love with this Pistola pair. IDK why they were on such major sale, but they were so I grabbed two colors and actually feel very confident in them, which is a big deal. They’re the Lennon High Rise Boot Jean and are slightly cropped so they hit right around the ankle. If you’re local to Dallas, I got them at Favor the Kind! (True to size).
I got these Levi shortalls at the same boutique (not on sale) and OMG, they are fantastic. The cut of the shorts is exactly long enough, and they are just so comfortable. Y’all know I’m an overalls girlie, so these will be put to great use this spring! (True to size).
Lastly, I realized only yesterday that there is a Carter’s near my house, which is super dangerous because I love their baby clothes so so so much. The good news, though, is that it’s all relatively cheap. Like, there is constantly a sale — nothing is ever full price. Here are some cute things I picked up for Ziggy yesterday (in the 6 month size. Kill me):
This textured 2-way zipper onesie
Also this adorable 2-way zipper onesie
This hoodie and sweatpants set because obviously
An outfit for St. Patrick’s Day
and some awesome socks that I can’t find online. Boo.
Cheers to the freaking weekend, ya know?

I need Ellen to join book club because her rec for The Secret Society of Irregular Witches was my favorite!
I love the mini book club idea!
